OCTOBER

TYE-DYE CANVAS TOTE BAG WORKSHOP

    October 12

    Wednesday, 6:30-9pm

    Facilitator: Kasia Drake-Hames

Cost: $23.00 (Includes ALL materials to make 1 bag)

    Registration Deadline: Oct. 5

It’s back to the 1960s with Hippies, Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead and those tye-dye tees. Tonight we update it to 2011 and help decrease our “carbon footprint” with a natural 100% Cotton Tye-Dye Tote Bag. This isn’t your mother’s tye-dye. Now you can do it with COLOR CHORDS - rubber bands that already have the dye in them to make it easier. You will learn the entire process – from start to finish – and create unique patterns and color combinations. You’ll leave with a handmade item ready to use. This Workshop is for beginners with no art experience all the way to “veteran” tye-dyers who want to try some new techniques. See a TYE-DYE TOTE BAG on the SAMPLE WALL at the Center. ALL MATERIALS included in the cost to make 1 Bag. Refreshments provided. PLEASE wear or bring to change old clothes and shoes – this can be messy!

PLAID “COUNTRY TOTE” BASKET

    2-part WORKSHOP

    Mondays, 6:30-9 pm

    Facilitator: Cathy Wagner

Cost: $56.99 (Basic supply list given at time of registration)

Registration Deadline: EARLY DEADLINE – October 19

Cathy is back with the Basket YOU voted to make. This is the Basket you will pick every time when you need something roomy yet strong to “tote” around books, special craft projects or even groceries. You’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. The basket measures 8” X 13” X 9 ½” tall. The handles are medium brown leather. You will have your choice of colors in rattan reeds to create your plaid.  It’s a large basket body so it gives you a chance to create and design an attractive color scheme. See Cathy’s Basket on the SAMPLE WALL at the Center. You’ll create a practical and beautiful basket.

FELTED ROSE PIN WORKSHOP

    November 10

    Thursday, 6:30-9pm

    Facilitator: Angela Laughingheart

Cost: $19.99 (Includes all material to make 1 pin)

    Registration Deadline: Nov. 3

Felting is one of the oldest textile forms dating back more than 5,000 years.  No one knows what civilization first came up with it but examples have been found in Central Asia from 4000 B.C. of felted hats and blankets. Felting changes fibers from individual strands to a mixture of fibers that is very strong and creates a completely different look. Tonight Angela has felted material ready to be made BY YOU into a beautiful pin. And fashion-wise, felted accessories are HOT! You saw them everywhere on the runways this Spring in Paris and New York. Your finished FELTED ROSE PIN can be worn on the lapel of a coat or jacket, on a purse or belt, pinned to a ribbon or cord at your neck, on a pillow or lampshade…the possibilities are endless. You get all the materials to make your pin. You will wind and sew your pre-felted piece into a rose shape then sew in the pearl stamen, add the pin backing and sew the foliage to the flower. And Angela has a box to take home your finished piece. See a FELTED ROSE PIN on the SAMPLE WALL at the Center. Instructions, scissors, coffee, herbal teas and snacks included in the cost.
