RECREATION & FITNESS PROGRAMS are for Adults 18 yrs. and older. These programs include activities for leisure time and for health and Fitness. Fitness Programs require an Adult Medical Form to be on file in addition to the Registration Form prior to the first time one attends the class. The Medical Form is available at the Bay View Community Center.     Enjoy an evening of playing Milwaukee’s favorite card game in our cool and comfortable Game Room. Come out and play a game of cards. No smoking or alcohol. People are nice. Everyone plays (age 18 and up). Seniors (or not), singles, friends, couples, “ladies and gentlemen” are welcome. Meet new people. When you play every week, you get better at your game!     TAI CHI & QIGONG are ancient Chinese practices developed to integrate mind/body/spirit based on the principles of Yin and Yang. Our classes develop: 1) POSTURE/ BALANCE – spine and torso alignment and conditioning through soft repetitive movements and weight shifting exercises to put a firm foundation under the torso to co-ordinate with the 4 limbs; 2) AWARENESS – discovering connections between body/mind/spirit through posture and breathing; 3) RELAXATION – using mind and movement to surrender to the natural forces of gravity and bio-electricity (Qi) to improve energy flow throughout the physical body and 4) PRACTICE – through time and applying postures, you experience harmony and growth of self-tuning your energy body in a supportive environment. (Can be done seated for surgery recovery.) Angela has been practicing Tai Chi & Qigong since 1991 bringing theory and philosophy of these arts to her teaching. No new participants after July 26.

It’s Summer with lots of opportunities to enjoy everything Wisconsin has to offer. It is a GREAT time to try something that will give you the energy and good health you need – Gentle Yoga. Do something for yourself and join us. Once a week this class can provide relief from stress, relaxation and good health. Lynn has been practicing yoga for 11 years. She focuses on gentle Hatha Yoga poses (asanas) and different breathing techniques (pranayama). Lynn welcomes all with an open heart and mind to join us. Please wear comfortable clothes.     We are pleased to continue our partnership with SLPT – SOUTHERN LAKES PHYSICAL THERAPY – an outpatient, orthopedic physical therapy clinic located in Bay View. William Lois, Doctor of Physical Therapy and President of SLPT is committed to providing programs to enable older adults to maintain a healthy, productive life. He has worked with us to bring a low cost exercise program for seniors to Bay View Community Center. Class meets for 1-hour twice a week and offers stretching, movement and aerobics. Paula Ortega, our instructor, is a massage practitioner from SLPT. In addition to massage therapy, Paula assists patients with their physical therapy exercises. She is anxious to work with you in class. We meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We always welcome newcomers. There is NO contract or membership fee.  And, YOU DON’T PAY FOR CLASSES YOU DO NOT ATTEND. So, if you are on vacation or the grandkids are coming for a visit, you won’t loose any money. There is no commitment or contract, just a comfortable place to exercise under a trained instructor. Refreshments provided.
